electroplating

ELECTROPLATING is the process of applying a metal coating to another metal substrate through the process of electrolysis. The most common metals used are chrome, silver, copper, nickel and brass.

chrome

Chrome is a very hard metal which provides a brilliant non-tarnishing finish and is used extensively on articles subject to continuous wear such as bathroom fittings, door handles, tools, furniture and lighting components, as well as car and motor bike parts amongst others.

Silver

Silver on the other hand is a soft metal which scratches and tarnishes readily if misused. Its lovely mellow appearance has appealed to people for centuries and because of this and its absolute purity, is ideally suited to tableware such as cutlery, candlesticks, tea sets and trays, to name but a few.

nickel

nickel is a silvery-white lustrous metal with a slight golden tinge that provides a decorative coating that is both hard-wearing and corrosion resistant. It also acts as an undercoat when chrome-plating. Used as a stand-alone plating finish when the bright, mirror-finish of chrome is not required.

copper

copper is a soft, ductile metal that has very high thermal and electrical conductivity and has a reddish-orange colour that can range from brown through to pink.

brass

Brass is a metallic alloy made from copper and zinc that has a bright gold-like appearance. It is used extensively for bathroom fittings, musical instruments and tableware. Like copper, it tarnishes extremely quickly, so a clear lacquer is required to protect its bright finish.
